Our half-day “Introduction to Navigation” course, is tailored for beginners and seasoned walkers who wish to break free from their dependence on technology and develop fundamental map reading and navigation skills.

Course Content:

  1. Planning a Route:
    • Acquire skills to plan efficient routes across various terrains, considering landmarks and potential obstacles.
  2. Map Scales, Symbols, and Contours:
    • Explore the nuances of map interpretation, understanding scales, symbols, and contours for effective navigation and terrain analysis.
  3. Basic Compass Skills:
    • Master the essentials of compass use, including:
      • Taking Bearings: Learn how to use a compass to determine and follow a specific direction.
      • Orienting the Map: Understand how to align the map with the compass to navigate accurately.
  4. Skills for Poor Visibility Navigation:
    • Learn techniques for navigating in challenging conditions, such as low visibility, ensuring the ability to stay on course irrespective of weather conditions.
  5. Basic Relocation Techniques:
    • Develop crucial skills for relocating yourself in unfamiliar surroundings, allowing you to recover from unexpected deviations in your route.
